REVEREND SANDRA TAYLOR-SMITH

Reverend Sandra Taylor-Smith, affectionately called “Angel” by family and close friends, is a native of Goochland County, Virginia. She is the third born, and only girl, of five children to Deaconess Berta Ellis Taylor and the late Deacon Herman Taylor, Jr.

Sandra accepted Christ at the age of eight and was baptized at St. James Baptist Church, Goochland County, VA. She started serving God and praising Him by participating as a member of the Youth Choir and Junior Ushers while faithfully attending Sunday School, Prayer Meetings and Bible Studies.

What begin as the “still, small voice of God” grew stronger within the heart of Sandra after she was ordained as a Deacon in 2004 at St. James Baptist Church. After a year of wrestling and committed prayer, she surrendered to the will of God, accepted His call to the Ministry, and was licensed to preach the Gospel under the leadership of Rev. Thomas Blake, Pastor of St. James Baptist in October 2005. She was ordained to the Gospel Ministry in August 2008 under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Norwood Carson, Pastor of Tabernacle Baptist Church, Richmond, VA. Sandra served as Associate Minister of Outreach at St. James Baptist Church. She takes to heart the mandate of God according to the Gospel of Matthew  “…Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded….” where she visits the Virginia Correctional Center for Women, quarterly.

Sandra was educated in Goochland County and Richmond City School Systems. Further education includes an Associate Degree in Tailoring and Dressmaking from the Richmond Technical Center. In 2006 and 2007, Sandra received certificates in Religious Studies, Christian Education, Proclamation Preaching, and Pastoral Care from Evans- Smith Training Institute of the Samuel DeWitt School of Theology at Virginia Union University. In 2009, Sandra received a certificate in Advanced Theological Preparation from the Samuel DeWitt School of Theology at Virginia. Union University, where she is currently a candidate for the Master of Divinity,

Sandra loves the Lord and is deeply humbled by His call. She receives inspiration to be a servant leader showing love to all. Sandra is greatly encouraged by Paul’s second letter to Timothy, chapter 2 verse 15 which states: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by Him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of God. (NRSV).

Sandra has been a member of the Baptist Ministers Conference of Goochland and Vicinity since 2005 currently serving as Corresponding Secretary. She also serves on the Civic, Communication and Caring Committees. In 2005, The Goochland Christian Churches Association elected Sandra as a member of the Executive Board where she currently assumes the duty of Recording Secretary. She served from 2004-2006, as a volunteer of Goochland Free Clinic & Family Services as an Intake Officer assisting low income families with fuel assistance and food.

Sandra has been happily married to Robert Smith, Jr. for 12 years and together they share six adult children and eight grandchildren.

October 2009 marked 19 years of employment with the E.C. Robins, Jr. family where she continues to provide trusted and ongoing family support.

She was installed as the Local Pastor of Divine Revelation Baptist Church, Goochland, VA, on

November 8, 2009.
